Baseball Signs Seven New Recruits

Florida Atlantic University head baseball coach Kevin Cooney announced the signing of seven new recruits who will enroll at FAU in Fall 2008.
The Owls signed four pitchers, including Brent Adheen from Plantation's Northeast High School and Barry Rooks from Daytona Beach Community College, formerly of Oviedo High School in Oviedo who are both left-handers. To complete the rotation, the Owls also added Michael Tomasi of Boca Raton High School and Hugh Adams from St. John's High School in Bethesda, Maryland.
Adheen won the team Cy Young award his junior year and plays summer league ball for the All-American Prospects.
Rooks comes from a strong junior college program and was named to the all-conference team as a prepster. He was also a member of the dean's list.
A third pitcher to sign with FAU is Michael Tomasi. Tomasi is captain of his high school team and has been named all-conference, all-county and all-area team the last two seasons.
Adams, the lone pitcher to come from outside Florida, earned second team all-conference in 2006 and played for the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball league the past two seasons.
The Owls also signed three position players, Patrick Donahue from Broward Community College, formerly of Highlands Christian Academy in Deerfield Beach, Tyler Herrig from Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Kansas, and Michael Albaladejo from West Orange High School in Winter Garden.
While playing the infield, Donahue was named all-county and all-state his junior and senior year. Herrig, the lone outfielder to commit in the early signing period, was named All-Jayhawk Conference while playing at Allen County Community College. In high school, he was named to the all-conference team three times.
Rounding out the list of signees is Mike Albaladejo who will be an instrumental player. Albaladejo was named first team all-county, first team all-metro and team MVP his junior year as a catcher.
Overall, Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator John McCormack believes that FAU was very successful in landing quality players for the future of the baseball program. "We addressed our immediate needs as well as put a foundation in place for the future," said McCormack. "I look forward to all these players getting on campus next fall. I know that the coaching staff is eager to start working with them. Each player is a quality individual and student and will fit into our team concept well."

Named to the second team all-conference last season, Adams led St. John's to an 11-1 record overall. He also pitched in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League for the Bethesda Big Train for the past two seasons.
Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator John McCormack on Adams: "Hugh Adams is a physical specimen. At 6-5, 210 he is an imposing figure on the mound. He has pitched at a high level over the past few years and those experiences will help him transition into college nicely. I look for Hugh to become a dominant pitcher for us in the future.

Adheen won the team Cy Young award his junior season. He played his summer ball for the All-American Prospects.
McCormack on Adheen: "Brent Adheen reminds me a young Dontrelle Willis. When he pitches you can tell he has a love for baseball. His enthusiasm is contagious and I know the FAU faithful will enjoy watching him pitch."
Michael Albaladejo, C, West Orange High School, Winter Garden, FL, 5-7, 169
Albaladejo was named first team all-county and first team all-metro his junior seasons. He was also named second team all-Central Florida and was his team's MVP last season.
McCormack on Albaladejo: "Mike Albaladejo is a force behind the plate. I have not seen many young men be able to run a team as he does. Mike will make our team better by his leadership and passion. I am excited to see Mike play."
Patrick Donahue, INF, Highland Christian Academy/Broward Community College, Boca Raton, FL, 5-10, 190
Donahue was named to the all-county and all-state teams while at Highlands Christian Academy. He also played summer league ball for the Florida Pokers for the past two seasons.
McCormack on Donahue: "Patrick Donahue is a `baseball rat'. You rarely see a young man that spends as much time as he does on the baseball field. Pat is a very good player that will make an immediate impact on our team.
Tyler Herrig, OF, Allen County Community College, Leavenworth, KS, 6-0, 180
Herrig was named to the All-Jayhawk Conference team as a Junior College player. At Leavenworth High School, he was named to the all-conference team three times.
McCormack on Herrig: "Tyler Herrig is the consummate professional hitter, he can swing the bat and play all three OF positions. Tyler is a good athlete that will bring versatility to our line-up. I have enjoyed watching him play and look forward to his arrival on campus."
Barry Rooks, P, Oviedo High School/Daytona Beach CC, Oviedo, FL, 6-3, 195
While attending Daytona Beach Community College, Rooks helped the Falcons win their second Mid-Florida Conference Championship in two years. A dean's list member, he helped the team win the National Baseball Academic Team of the Year Award in 2007 with a team G.P.A of 3.47.
McCormack on Rooks: "Barry has just scratched the surface of his talent. He has always been successful and knows how to win."
Michael Tomasi, P, Boca Raton High School, Boca Raton, FL 6-5, 180
Tomasi will make the trek across Glades Road from Boca Raton HS to join FAU next season. The team captain for the Bobcats, Tomasi is a two-time all-conference, all-county and all-area recipient.
McCormack on Tomasi: "Mike is a prototypical right-handed pitcher. He is tall and lean and throws downhill. He is a true student of the game and is constantly striving to get better."
