Florida Atlantic University men's basketball head coach Rex Walters has announced the letter of intent signings of two new players for the 2008-09 season.
FAU signed six-foot-six forward Dago Pena from Punta Gorda, FL. Pena averaged nearly 16 points and six rebounds a game as a junior. He was named class 5-A third-team all-state in Florida last year, and is a top 100 prospect in the nation according to Slam Magazine.
"Dago is going to be a very good wing player for us," said Walters. "He will bring athleticism, shooting ability, a great skill set, along with a great passion for the game and winning."
The Owls also signed six-foot-two guard Shavon Shine from DeSoto High School in Arcadia, FL. Shine averaged 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals in his junior season. He was named to the Florida class 4-A honorable mention all-state team, and was named Charlotte Sun-Herald first team all-area. Both Shine and Pena are currently teammates on the highly respected Florida Rams AAU team.
"Shavon will play the point and shooting guard positions and has the ability to get us to a higher level," said Walters. "He will bring toughness, athleticism, defensive ability, as well as the ability to pass, handle and shoot the basketball. It is a great day for Florida Atlantic University men's basketball with the addition of Dago and Shavon, I am very excited about keeping two of the best in the state of the Florida here at Florida Atlantic University."
