BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will travel to Alabama this weekend.
The Owls (5-7-1, 2-4-0 Sun Belt) dropped both of last weekend's matches falling to Louisiana-Lafayette 2-1 in overtime Friday night and Louisiana-Monroe 1-0 on Sunday. The losses were especially frustrating for head women's soccer coach Brian Dooley.
"We had plenty of opportunities to win both of last week's matches, we just couldn't capitalize," said Dooley.
This weekend, FAU faces Troy and South Alabama. On Friday night, the Owls visit Mobile to take on South Alabama. The Jaguars (7-5-2, 2-3-1) feature a high-powered offensive attack led by Tiara Smith who has 25 points (10G, 5A) on the year. Smith was stifled in last year's meeting, as USA was held to just three shots in a 3-0 FAU win in Boca Raton.
Troy (5-10-0, 1-5-0) will also be looking for a measure of revenge when the two teams meet on Sunday. Four different Owls scored in a 6-0 home win against the Trojans last season. FAU's defense was particularly difficult in that match as Troy was not only kept from scoring, but did not so much as register a shot in the encounter.
Friday's match from Mobile will start at 8 p.m. eastern. Information about women's soccer and all of Florida Atlantic's other athletic programs can be found at fausports.com
