Cross Country Shines in Tampa

Tampa, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women cross country teams turned in remarkable performances at the FLRunners.com Invitational on Friday.
The women were led by junior Trisha Doyle and freshman Friederike Feil. The duo finished 1-2 in the women's 5K. It was the first victory of the year for Doyle (18:10.83). Feil (18:25.55) took second in just her third 5K ever, finishing almost 40 seconds in front of the third place finisher.
The Owls had four runners finish in the top seven among eligible competitors, as Monika Grabowiecka finished 6th (20:00.23) and Ashley Wilcox (20:02.15) finished 7th. Their performance helped the Owls win the women's team competition by more than 60 points over second place Nova Southeastern.
Allison Wilcox finished in 20:48.72, good for 20th in her first race of the season. Jillian Lopez followed immediately after to take 21st (20:53.74). Barbara Fronrath finished in 21:13.17, taking 30th overall. Patricia Gumbs rounded out the field for the Owls, finishing in 22:45.30 (61st overall). Artemis Saridakis started for the Owls, but was unable to finish.
The men's team recorded its best finish of the season finishing second, trailing only Nova Southeastern. Earl Barlow (17:10.98) was the high finisher for FAU placing fifth among collegians.
Freshman Stephen Dassin (17:19.11, 7th) and junior Jordan Zwick (17:30.31, 10th) helped the Owls put three runners in the top ten.
Taylor Reeves (17:54.41, 13th) and Kendrick Ribeiro (18:35.39, 20th) gave the Owls five runners in the top 20. Tim Haines (18:44.29, 22nd) and William Sheppard (20:32.45, 33rd) also ran well for the Owls. Kyle Byrtus started for the Owls, but did not complete the course.
The Owls' next meet is on Oct. 7, when they compete in the Disney World Invitational in Orlando.
