Aggressive serving and 14 services aces powered Florida Atlantic University past Troy University Saturday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action. The Owls defeated the Trojans 3-1 (24-30, 30-19, 30-17, 30-28) in Troy, AL. Justine Petry led the offense with a season-high 20 kills, one shy of her career-high.
The Owls (7-8, 4-1 SBC) dropped the first game of the match after committing eight of the team's 18 errors in the frame. The team rebounded to hit .400 in game two and did not trail the Trojans (7-14, 1-4 SBC) in the rest of the match.
Petry (Trumansburg, NY) posted her 20 kills by hitting .514 and added three blocks. Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) finished with 18 kills after sitting out in Friday's match at South Alabama. The senior added four service aces to finish with a match-high 23 points.
Andonova added her seventh double-double of the season with a season-high 15 digs. Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN) added a career-high 15 digs of her own.
Troy (7-14, 1-4 SBC) was led by Aubre Smith with 15 kills, while Meghan Washlow finished with a match-high 20 digs.
The Owls have won seven of their last nine matches and return home for three conference matches this coming week. FAU hosts Florida International on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
