BOCA RATON,FL - The Florida Atlantic University Owls tied the Longwood Lancers 1-1 in their Atlantic Soccer Conference opener Friday night.
The match was the Owls' first conference match since leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference after 13 seasons. FAU's goal came in the 25th minute when Borce Ancevski found Walter Yoder behind the Lancer defense and Yoder beat keeper Brandt Youmans for the score. The Lancers answered in the 84th minute when Martin Vickerton scored on a direct free kick from 20 yards out.
The match was a physical encounter with the two teams combining for 44 fouls and 12 cards. Each team had a player sent off as Longwood's Trey Thornton was ejected at the 66-minute mark and FAU's Andreas Heggelund was removed in the 90th minute.

The Owls travel to Jacksonville for their next game, where they take on the Dolphins. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday
