BOCA RATON, FL -- Ran Poliker's shot from 30-yards out was ticketed for the top corner, but Adelphi goalkeeper Michael Hurley punched it aside and stifled the best scoring chance for the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team.
The Owls dropped a 1-0 decision to the Panthers in the team's second Atlantic Soccer Conference match-up. FAU tied its' conference opener with Longwood on September 22.
The two teams played an even first 45 minutes, but it was Adelphi that was able to take advantage of a corner kick late in the half. Hoffman headed a corner kick from teammate Chrys Charalambous past the Owls' goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre in the 43rd minute for the game's only tally.
FAU (3-7-1, 0-1-1 ASC) would carry the play in the second half, out-shooting AU 8-2, forcing Hurley to make five saves. None better than his stop of Poliker's laser. He would also deny a breakaway chance by Borce Ancevski.
The Owls will continue the conference portion of their schedule, as they head to the northeast to face Hartwick in Oneonta, NY on October 14.
