BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University will be making its final run through the Atlantic Sun Conference beginning on Monday, Jan 2 at 3:15 p.m. against the Mercer Bears. The Owls (3-6, 2-0 A-Sun) are in search of their seventh straight conference tournament appearance under head coach Chancellor Dugan, before making the transition into the Sun Belt Conference next season.
The Owls ended their non-conference battles with back-to-back home losses to Florida State (76-63) and Georgetown (71-62). However, with conference wins against UNF (57-43) and Jacksonville (74-71) in the first week of December leaves FAU tied for the conference lead.
Sophomore Guard Missy Glaser has scored in double-figures in four consecutive games to lift her average to 10.1 points per game.
Records may be broken this week as senior Shontavia Williams needs to cash in on two free throws and attempt eight more charity tosses to become the All-Time leader in both categories at Florida Atlantic.
Monday's match-up will feature the top two distributors in the conference as Sally Skeldon of Mercer is leading the A-Sun with 6.5 assists per game and Shuteamia Brayboy is dishing out 6.1 helpers per game.
The Bears (3-6, 0-2) hold an 18-12 series advantage over the Owls and have won four out of the last five meetings. The Owls and Bears split their two tilts last year with both teams winning on their home floor.
The Owls will conclude the week with a Saturday night showdown against the Stetson Hatters. Stetson is currently 2-7 on the year and winless in the conference. Tip time is set for 7 p.m at FAU Arena.
