Boca Raton, FL - Despite an ominous patch of weather that rained down on the Boca Raton practice facility for part of Saturday, the Florida Atlantic football team worked through the slog and at the end of the day emerged from the field in a cool, sunny environment with a third consecutive productive practice under their belts. The running backs in particular seemed to perform well despite the early showers.
"I think that we could be vastly improved at running back," head coach Howard Schnellenberger said. "Overall, I saw more players today that looked like they could play than I thought we had out here, so that's encouraging."
Among running backs, sophomore Anthony Heard showed great strength and leg drive that elicited several big responses from his crowd of teammates. Sophomore Dominick Walker also showed good power and slashing ability, while freshman Charles Pierre displayed more elusiveness and vision.
The Owls practice again Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Also starting on Monday, the FAU Athletic Department and coach Fred O'Connor will provide beverages and refreshments for interested fans in the Founder's Lounge at the Tom Oxley Center. This service will be provided Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4:00 p.m., and all fans are encouraged to attend.
Notable: The team scrimmaged for part of the session, with Danny Embick taking the snaps at first string. Earlier in the day, the team ran the Oklahoma drill and also worked on some open field tackling.
Injuries: Sophomore offensive lineman Peter Pantelakos suffered a sprained ankle, but no other injuries were reported.
