BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University begins its quest for an Atlantic Sun Conference title Thursday when it begins play at the A-Sun Tournament in DeLand, FL. The Owls are the no. 6 seed in the 11-team field with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
FAU brings in a 7-11 record overall and a 2-3 mark in A-Sun play. It will face no. 11 Gardner-Webb Thursday at 11:30am. The Bulldogs are 2-20 on the year and went 0-5 against A-Sun foes. The winner of the match will take on no. 3 UCF in a Friday quarterfinal.
Troy received the top seed, followed by Georgia State, UCF, Campbell, and Belmont.
F.J. Schofield leads the Owls with a 16-7 record overall. Mauricio Paiz has 11 wins, and J.P. Bounassar and Kevin Obletz each have nine.
Florida Atlantic will be seeking its third trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Owls received an at-large berth in 2000 before claiming the A-Sun's automatic bid in 2001 with an A-Sun Tournament championship.
