BOCA RATON - FAU sophomore Meghan Doonan was named the Atlantic Sun Conference pitcher-of-the-week on Monday by the league office. Doonan, a right-hander from Wallingford, Connecticut, went 3-1 last week, allowing just three earned runs in 27 innings pitched, while striking out 28. She has not allowed an earned run in five of her last six appearances and has a 0.68 ERA over that span. Doonan is the first FAU player to receive an A-Sun weekly award this season.
Doonan allowed only two hits and struck out ten in the Owls 8-0 win over Quinnipiac on Tuesday. In FAU's 4-3 win over Wisconsin on Friday, Doonan did not allow an earned run in pitching a complete game, while striking out four. On Saturday, the sophomore gave up her only three runs of the week as the Lady Owls fell to Tulsa, 6-2. Doonan avenged the loss on Sunday with a complete game, four-hit shutout, as FAU defeated the Golden Hurricane 7-0.
Doonan and the rest of the Owls softball team will host a doubleheader against Wisconsin on Tuesday before opening A-Sun play on Friday night with a home doubleheader against Lipscomb.
