BOCA RATON, FL -- Softball head coach Joan Joyce inked three preps to join the program after their high school days are complete.
Ambar Jones, Amber Barton, and Hailey Broyles will all wear Florida Atlantic jerseys next year, an incoming class that offers a lot to the Owl program, according to Joyce.
Jones is a four-year varsity starter who earned Miami Herald Honorable Mention honors in 2003 and 2004. She was also named to the All-Broward First-Team in 2005. She owns the Pembroke Pines Charter High School single-season records in batting average (.490), hits (49), stolen bases (31), and runs scored (36).
"Ambar Jones is a SS/OF who will give us some small ball help. She has a lot of speed as a switch hitter," Joyce said.
Broyles, Jones' teammate, was named to the All-Broward County First-Team in 2004 and 2005, as well as the All-Florida First-Team in 2004 and Second-Team in 2005. The Pembroke Pines Charter High School student was also twice named team MVP for the volleyball squad.
"Hailey will probably play a corner outfield spot, and she also brings above average speed and very good contact hitting.," the coach said.
Barton, the 2005 Pine Ridge High School Offensive Player of the Year and team MVP, earned First-Team All-Area honors in 2004. The Osteen, FL native also played volleyball for four years and earned First-Team All-Area honors in 2005.
"Amber is a 3B/P with a lot of athletic ability. She could step into a corner infield role right away, but we brought her in because of her potential as a pitcher," Joyce said.
