After finishing their college careers at Florida Atlantic University, Blue Wave baseball players have been making a name for themselves in the minor and major leagues this season. Most recently Jeff Fiorentino ('02-'04) and Matt Pali ('02-'03) had their moments in the spotlight.
Pali, who plays for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, participated in the Midwest League All-Star game as the starting first baseman. He drove in the final run of the contest as the Western Division won a 6-3 battle. A 17th round draft pick of the Anaheim Angels in 2003, Pali is hitting .292 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 57 games.
A third-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2004, Jeff Fiorentino helped the Aberdeen Ironbirds to a 10-7 win over the Staten Island Yankees on Tuesday. The outfielder picked up his first two hits in his professional career with a double and home run for three RBI.
FAU's first player to reach the major leagues, Tim Harikkala, is throwing well out of the Colorado Rockies bullpen. The right-hander holds the lowest ERA on the staff at 2.70 with a 1-1 record. In his 30 innings of work he has only allowed 18 hits.
