BOCA RATON, FL - One former and one current member of the Florida Atlantic University men's golf team have qualified for the 2004 British Amateur Championship. Both Scott Kennedy and Torstein Nevestad will participate in the six-day event to be held at the historic Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew's in Scotland.
Kennedy, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, finished his three-year career at FAU in 2003 and most recently has served as a volunteer assistant coach with the program. Nevestad just completed his freshman season with the Owls and is a member of the Norwegian National Team. The Oslo, Norway, native led the Owls in 2003-04 with a 73.57 scoring average.
The competition runs May 31 through June 5 at the Old and Jubilee Courses at St. Andrew's. The first two rounds feature stroke play before the top 64 players square off in match play for the remainder of the championship.
