Macon, GA - Cristian Paiz was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week as announced by the league office in Macon, GA. Paiz, from Gautemala City, Guatemala, led the Owls to a pair of wins the previous week. Paiz started the week off with a 7-5, 7-6 winner over #38 Lynn University's Regnier Azevedo, at the #2 position. Paiz then won a convincing 6-1, 6-4 match over Stetson's Christian Moe on Saturday. For the year, the senior has been a major contributor to FAU's (13-5) turnaround.
FAU was 3-4 when Paiz rejoined the team after facing eligibility issues. Since his return, the Owls have won 10 of their last 11 matches and head into next week's A-Sun tournament riding a 10-match win streak.
Paiz now has a 9-1 singles record on the season and is 9-2 at the #1 doubles position. In doubles, he pairs with Antonello Magris, another Owl that joined the team late.
Paiz has won eight consecutive singles matches, all at the #2 position.
Paiz is the third different men's player to win this award. Magris and F.J. Schofield each garnered the award earlier this year.
FAU will travel to Macon, GA for the A-Sun Tournament, April 14-17.
