Macon, GA - Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team earned a no. 3 seed for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. The Owls earned an opening round bye and will take on the winner of no. 6 seed Troy State University vs. no. 11 seed Mercer University in the quarterfinals, 2:00 pm April 15, in Macon, GA. Matches will be played at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center. FAU, 13-5 and 2-2 in A-Sun play, has won 10 consecutive matches heading into this week's tournament.
The Owls defeated Troy state, 5-2, earlier this season.
Drawing the no. 1 seed was UCF, while Jacksonville grabbed the no. 2 slot. The Owls faced both schools earlier in the year, falling, 4-3, against Jacksonville, and, 5-2, at UCF. If the seeds hold true, the Owls could face Jacksonville in the semifinals and UCF in the finals.
F.J. Schofield has led the Owls throughout the season, holding a 16-1 record with 13 consecutive singles wins. Schofield is one of three Owls to earn Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week honors. Teammates Cristian Paiz and Antonello Magris have also garnered the award.
Mauricio Paiz has also been hot of late, winning 12 of his last 14 at no. 6, including six straight singles matches.
