Ellie Weberg will represent Florida Atlantic University in the 2004 NCAA Swimming Championships that will be held on March 18-20 at Texas A&M. The freshman from Bloomington, MN recorded a 'B' cut time (1:02.70) in the 100-yard breaststroke to qualify and holds the school record in both the 100 and 200 breast.
Weberg won the 100 breaststroke at the National Independent Conference Championships in late February and set an NIC, pool and school record in the event with a time of 1:02.70. This season the freshman surpassed FAU's previous mark by 3.33 seconds set in 2001 by Christina Horton.
She will also compete at Nationals in the 200 breaststroke. She set the FAU record in the 200 breast at the Minnesota Invitational and earned a 'B' cut time of 2:16.63. She was unable to improve upon this time at the NIC meet, however she did set the NIC record and the pool record (University of Oakland) of 2:16.95.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Lisa Andersson, Valeria Dalmastro, Boguslawa Bedyk and Emma Petersson finished the season ranked no. 21 nationally and narrowly missed a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships. The team posted a time of 1:32.46 at the NIC Championships setting an NIC, a pool and a school record.
The last athletes to compete at the NCAA Championships for FAU were Laura Petrutyte- Box and Artur Rutkowski in 1997.
