The Series
This will be the first meeting between FAU and George Washington.
On a Roll
With a 7-0 record over the first two weeks of the season, FAU is off to one of its best starts in school history. It ties the 7-0 start in 1994 and is one win short of the 8-0 start in 1985 under Steve Traylor. That season FAU finished with a 44-15 record and the program's first NCAA appearance.
In his last outing, senior Matt O'Brien (Royal Palm Beach, FL) threw a three-hit shutout threw seven innings and struck out a career-high 10 batters against Southern Illinois. Bobby DeMichael and Mark Culp added to FAU's strikeout numbers after both relief pitchers struck out the side in the eighth and ninth,respectively. The shutout was the first of the year for FAU.
George Washington
The Colonials open the season against FAU on Friday. A February 11th meeting with Norfolk State in Norfolk, VA was cancelled due to inclement weather. The 2003 squad finished the season with a 37-18 record. All but four players return from the squad that posted the best record in school history since 1986. GW returns seven of nine position players and more than 75 percent of its home run and RBI production from last season.
