BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball (21-21, 8-9) secured its third consecutive series victory, earning a 9-4 win over Charlotte (19-23, 4-13) on Saturday afternoon.
THE BEGINNING
The Owls opened the scoring in the second inning with a
TJ Gramesty sacrifice fly. Following two singles and a hit batter in the third,
John Martinez roped a bases-clearing, three-RBI double down the left field line to make it 4-0.
Redshirt sophomore starter
Kide Adetuyi breezed through the first four innings without allowing a hit. Charlotte finally solved the lefty in the fifth. A one-out walk, two singles, and a three-run home run tied the game at 4-4.
THE TURNING POINT
The Owls regained the lead for good in the sixth inning. After
Brett Patten and
Brando Leroux singled, Gramesty dropped down a safety squeeze bunt. Patten won the race to home plate to give the Owls a 5-4 advantage. The next batter,
Marshall Lipsey, lined an 0-1 pitch into the right field corner for a two-RBI double to make it 7-4.
THE FINISH
Ian Collier led off the seventh inning with his eighth home run of the season, and Romano contributed a sacrifice fly in the eighth for another insurance marker.
With a 9-4 lead in tow,
Tyler Murphy handled the 49ers' offense for the final three frames without issue to earn his first career save.

THE BATS
- As he's done most of the season, Martinez led the offense with three hits.
- His three RBI brought his season total up to a team-leading 33.
- Martinez also stretched his hitting streak to 11 games.
- Lipsey finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Eight of nine FAU starters scored at least one run.
THE ARMS
- Adetuyi completed five innings with seven strikeouts.
- Carson Kimball pitched a clean sixth inning and earned his second win of the season.
- Murphy did not allow a hit in his three innings. He struck out two and walked one.
