BOCA RATON, FL - With the departure of three seniors from the starting squad, the men's golf team of Florida Atlantic University inched a little closer to fulfilling those spots with the announced signing of two prominent young golfers. Alan Pereda and Torstein Nevestad have signed national letters of intent to attend FAU starting in the fall of 2003.
Pereda, currently finishing school at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, FL, helped lead his team to its third Florida high school state championship in four years while also finishing third individually. Pereda becomes the second starter from that team to commit to FAU as teammate Tommy Suri committed during the early signing period.
Nevestad, an Oslo, Norway native, is a member of the Norwegian National Golf team who has been very successful playing amateur golf. The Norwegian National Coach has stated that Nevestad is one of the top three players in Norway.
All three commitments: Suri, Pereda and Nevestad will join returnee Joel Gibbons as part of the five-man starting rotation in the fall season.
