BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University salvaged a doubleheader split with Stetson University Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory in game two. Nicole Myers pitched a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 13. The win improves FAU to 41-18 overall and wraps up the Lady Owls' Trans America Athletic Conference schedule with a 9-5 record. Stetson falls to 27-22 and 9-5 in TAAC play.
FAU scored both runs in the third on a two-out single by Callie Piper that drove in Michelle Shirah and Kristin Gonzalez. The only question on the mound for FAU was whether Nicole Myers could secure her second no-hitter in less than two weeks. Her bid was broken up with one out in the fifth when Adrienne Broles laced a single to left.
Myers improved to 22-10 on the year and extended her streak of not allowing an earned run to 43 innings. In that span, she has allowed just 13 hits and has struck out 84.
Earlier in the evening, FAU lost 6-1 to the Hatters in 11 innings. Stetson broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the 11th.
The Lady Owls conclude their season May 1 when they host a doubleheader with Florida International. FAU's doubleheader scheduled with Barry on April 28 has been cancelled.
