BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University closed out its regular season with a 2-1 loss to visiting Florida International, in eight innings, Tuesday in Boca Raton. The teams played in just one game of what was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader.
FIU took a 1-0 lead in the first on Monica Pardo's sacrifice fly. FAU battled back in the third when a fielding error allowed Kim Nicosia to score. In the eighth, Pardo gave FIU what turned out to be a 2-1 victory with a one-out run-scoring single.
Despite a leadoff double by Ninya Ybarra in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Owls were unable to tie the game.
Nicole Myers (22-11) suffered the loss despite allowing just one run on three hits in five innings of relief. FIU's Leah Barnes picked up the victory.
The game was preceded by senior night festivities as FAU's Chris Sutcliffe, Kristie Picon, Diane Sanchez, Kristen Stanley, and Kim Nicosia were all honored.
FAU concludes the regular season with a 41-19 record and will next take on Troy State Thursday morning at 9:30am as the 2001 Trans America Athletic Conference Championship gets underway in Boca Raton.
