BOCA RATON, FL -
For the second straight year, Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis team is the no. 1 seed at the Trans America Athletic Conference Championship. The Owls are coming off their best regular season ever with 18 wins against only four losses.
Behind head coach Mike Wheelen, the men's team helped secure the top-seed with an impressive 6-0 mark against TAAC competition. In all, FAU outscored its conference opposition by a combined 40-2. The regular season included a 10-match winning streak and an ITA ranking as high as 49. Most recently, the team upset no. 35 Rice University, 4-1, last Saturday to close out the regular season. The Owls are seeking their second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after earning an at-large berth last season.
The TAAC Championship gets underway Thursday in Macon, GA with the 7-10 seeds competing. FAU will begin play Friday with a 9:00am match against the winner of Thursday's Jacksonville State/Samford match. The tournament runs through Sunday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
