Baseball Defeats no. 19 Oklahoma State 9-4

Two ranked teams faced this season and twice Florida Atlantic University's baseball team has proven they can beat the ranked with a 9-4 victory over Oklahoma State University, ranked no. 19 by Collegiate Baseball.
FAU scored three runs in the team's first opportunity. Gabe Somarriba, who was 2-for-3 and hit twice, led-off the game with a single to the left side. Jason Sullivan followed with a single back to the pitcher and Regan Samaniego loaded the bases with a walk. Dean Devine drove in the first run with a ground out. Everyone moved up on a wild pitch and scored on L.J. Biernbaum's first of two doubles. Ryan Humphrey drove in the team's fourth run of the game with a fielder's choice.
OK State scored one in the third and two in the fifth to pull within one. FAU catcher Robbie Orton hit a two-out homer to left center. With a 5-2 FAU advantage, Biernbaum again inflicted harm with a three RBI homer. In all, FAU drove across four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take control of the game. Oklahoma State scored one in the top of the ninth for the game's final.
Danny Core started the game for FAU. Core pitched five innings allowed three runs on just three hits. The sophomore retired a career high 11 strikeouts, but walked six. He was relieved in the sixth by Jim Cooney who pitched a 1 2/3 innings. Travis NeSmith finished the game for FAU with 2 1/3 innings of work. NeSmith, who earned the save allowed one hit and one unearned run.
OK State saw Nick McCurdy start the game. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and took the loss to fall to 1-1. McCurdy retired six on strikeouts and allowed four runs, all earned. He was relieved in the fifth by Shane Hawks who pitched two innings, allowed three runs, two earned. Hawks gave way to Darren Heal who finished the game. Heal struck out two, walked two and gave up two earned runs.
FAU will next play host to Boston College in a game that has been moved up one hour to noon.
