Four Florida Atlantic University football players have been selected to the NCAA Division I-AA Independents All-Star Team, announced Wednesday. Members of FAU's inaugural squad honored were: Mauratae Johnson, Andy Rosas, Doug Parker and Anthony Jackson.
The team was chosen by Sports Information Directors of the 12 independent football schools in Division I-AA, as well as a national panel of media and neutral SIDs who picked the players of the week, during the season.
Defensive back, Mauratae Johson, 6-3, 198, a freshman from West Palm Beach, led FAU in total tackles with 63, including 48 solo.
Punter, Andy Rosas, a 5-10, 195 pound sophomore from Miami, was the second to earn first team honors. Rosas ended the season ranked 44th nationally with an average of 38.52 yards per punt. His longest was a 52 yard punt and he ended the season with 13 inside the 20.
Second team honors were awarded to freshman running back Doug Parker. Parker, at 5-11, 205 from Delray Beach, led the team in rushing, was second in total receptions and led the team in scoring with nine touchdowns.
The final FAU selection was Anthony Jackson who earned second team special team honors. Jackson, 5-8, 180, from Delray Beach, led the team in kick returns and was listed 27th nationally with an average of 24.63. He was also third on the team in rushing.
In total, FAU faced the Independents' Coach of the Year: Tim Landis, from St. Mary's and the Defensive Player of the Year, Tory Atkins from Gardner Webb.
