MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University's Raheim Brown has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week, announced the league office on Monday afternoon. The senior forward averaged 27 points and 10.5 rebounds in FAU's two games last week. That included a career-high 31 points in the Owls' 88-84 double-overtime loss to Virginia Commonwealth Saturday.
Against VCU, Brown went 13-of-16 from the floor as well as 4-of-4 from the line. That included 8-of-10 with 20 points in the first half. The 6-10 native of Orlando played 47 minutes in the contest. He helped lead FAU to a 91-80 victory last Tuesday at Liberty by scoring a team-high 23 points and hauling in seven rebounds.
For both games, Brown went 22-of-33 (67 percent) from the field and 9-of-10 (90 percent) from the line.
In all, Brown leads FAU with 19.1ppg and 10.7rpg and 2.7 blocks per game. Among A-Sun leaders, he is third in scoring and second in both rebounds and blocks. Brown has three double-doubles through seven games and has finished with at least 11 points in each contest.
"It's been a terrific start to the season for Raheim," said FAU head coach Sidney Green. "That's the type of play we expected out of him, and that's the type of play we expect from him the rest of the season."
Florida Atlantic (4-3) is off to its best start in 10 years and is tied with Samford for first place in the Atlantic Sun. The Owls will put that 2-0 conference record on the line in their next game, December 17, at Samford.
