Upcoming Event: Women's Basketball versus Florida Memorial on November 4, 2025

Brooklyn Kohlheim makes her return to Paradise in the spring of 2025, reuniting with newly-hired Head Coach LeAnn Freeland, after previously being on staff together at Nova Southeastern and University of Indianapolis.
Kohlheim arrives from Mercyhurst University, where she served as the head coach from 2019-2025. She has more than 14 years of playing and coaching experience throughout the NCAA Division I and Division II levels. In just her second season with Mercyhurst, Kohlheim led the Lakers to a 5-0 start, matching the best start in program history since the 2016-17 season.
The 2023-24 season was the Lakers’ best season under Kohlheim, finishing with an overall record of 18-11 and 14-8 in conference play. Mercyhurst also tied a program record, rattling off 11 wins in a row. As a team, the Lakers shot 42% from the field. It was also the first time in 6 years the Lakers made the PSAC postseason. Â

Prior to her arrival at Lake Erie, Kohlheim was an assistant coach at Michigan Tech where she spent the 2017-18 season with the Huskies and helped lead them to a 23-6 overall record. The Huskies climbed as high as No. 13Â in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Poll. Michigan Tech was later crowned the GLIAC North Champions and received an at-large bid into the 2018 Division II NCAA Tournament. The team also finished the season with the highest team GPA in Division II.
Prior to coaching at Michigan Tech, Kohlheim returned to NSU after serving as the assistant women's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic for the 2015-16 season, her first stint with the Owls.
Prior to her initial rival to FAU, Kohlheim spent four seasons as an assistant coach for Nova Southeastern with Coach Freeland. During her time, she helped lead the Sharks to back-to-back Sunshine State conference tournament titles in 2014 and 15. She also played a key role in solidifying two regular season conference titles (2012-13 and 2014-15). During that time, NSU made two Elite Eight appearances in both 2014 and 15, reaching the Final Four in 2014. During her time at Nova Southeastern, she helped Coach Freeland build the program into one of the premier programs in all of Division II. The Sharks were ranked in the Top 25 for three consecutive years, including a No. 1 overall ranking.

Prior to NSU, Kohlheim spent two seasons at the University of Indianapolis, one as a graduate assistant and one as a full-time assistant. As Indianapolis' assistant coach, Kohlheim helped to guide the Greyhounds to a 17-13 record and their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth. During her first year, the team posted a 26-4 record and appeared in its third straight NCAA appearance.
Kohlheim gained her first coaching experience at the prep level, where she served two seasons as the girl's head basketball coach for Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers, while also teaching U.S. history. Before that she worked at Fort Myers High School as an assistant coach for the girls' basketball team and taught reading and health.
Kohlheim, a 2001 graduate of Bishop Verot High School, played collegiate basketball at Florida Southern College where she was a four-year starter. She was named to the Sunshine State Conference All-Freshman Team in 2002 and led the Mocs to an SSC Tournament title and NCAA appearance in 2003.
Kohlheim earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Indianapolis, as well as a B.A. in history from Florida Southern in 2005, and studied abroad in Costa Rica.
Off the basketball court, Kohlheim enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Edith and Ethel, and is a two-time Erie PA Horseshoe Champion (2022, 2023).Â
