Joey Worthen completed his eighth season at the helm of Florida Atlantic men's soccer in 2024. Worthen was named Florida Atlantic University’s head men’s soccer coach in February of 2017. The team began competing in the American Athletic Conference in 2022.
Under Worthen's leadership in 2024, the Owls qualified for their second consecutive AAC tournament. Led by AAC Offensive Player of the Year Mamadou Diarra, they led the league in goals and assists. Diarra and fellow forwards Noah Kvifte and Aboubacar Traore were each named to the All-AAC First Team, and defender Kasper Heerfordt was named to the All-Freshman team.
Worthen came to FAU from the University of South Carolina, where he was a part of the Gamecock staff since 2012. Over his five seasons on staff, the Gamecocks posted a 39-33-6 record. His tenure was highlighted by a trip to the C-USA Championship final in 2014. The team also hosted back-to-back NCAA Tournament first round games, and made an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and 2016.
