Georgette Nixon joined the Florida Atlantic University track & field team in August 2021 as an assistant coach. On September 1, 2023, Nixon was promoted to Associate Head Coach. Nixon is responsible for leading the sprint and jump group, while assisting head coach Alex Smolka run the program.Â
Nixon helped guide the teams' transition to the American Athletic Conference for the 2023-24 season. 85 percent of the cross country and track student-athletes achieved personal bests and the team as a whole recorded more PRs than any previous season.
The outdoor track season culminated with Anabell Reumann becoming the first Owl to win a medal in the AAC, earning the bronze in the 3000m steeplechase.
Nixon's promotion followed coaching one of the most successful seasons on the track for the Owls in recent memory. Runners soared to new heights under coach Nixon’s guidance in the 2022-23 campaign. Jessica Lambert became the first to represent the Owls in the NCAA Regionals since 2019. Lambert was the Conference USA champion in the 800m for both the indoor and outdoor season while setting a new school record in the event almost every time she ran it. The success spread to the entire team in a year that saw 11 new school records, 34 entries into the top 10 school record book, and 64 personal bests set.Â
In her first year as the jumps and sprints coach in 2021-22, Nixon inherited a young team with a bright future. Nixon’s first year in Paradise ended with 33 FAU top-10 marks and three school records, two of which came in sprinting events in the 300 meters by Cara Simpson (40.89) and 600 meters from Jessica Lambert (1:33.2). In continuing to develop Lambert, Nixon helped the second-year sophomore earn her second consecutive bronze medal in the 800 meters at the Conference USA Outdoor Championship, as she finished in 2:09.31. Cara Simpson continued to flourish under Nixon’s leadership, as the fourth-year Owl claimed fifth in the 100 meters at outdoor conference with a time of 11.71, the fourth best mark in school history.
