Tristan McGinnis joined the FAU baseball staff as an assistant coach in January of 2020.
For the past two seasons, McGinnis has focused his attention on the Owls’ pitching staff. After the shortened 2020 campaign, this past year, in the absence of Coach Kopp, McGinnis managed the Owls' pitching staff to a conference series split against No. 19 Southern Miss and a midweek victory over Miami. Overall, the team earned 32 wins, the No. 3 seed in the Conference USA East Division, and the staff featured Second Team All-C-USA member Hunter Cooley (who posted an 8-4 record) as well as Javi Rivera (who went undefeated with a 7-0 mark).
McGinnis came to FAU following his tenure as an assistant coach for his alma matter, Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. The local native of West Palm Beach played at Dwyer High School before moving on to play for Concord. An injury cut his pitching career short, but he became a student assistant, then graduate assistant, and finally the Mountain Lions’ pitching coach. During the 2019 season, his staff set a CU program record with 369 strikeouts and saw righthander Will Guay become a 24th round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to coaching at Concord, McGinnis has had over six years of experience working with USA Baseball. He has held such roles as a National Team Development Program task force scout and site supervisor for the National Team Championships East and National Team Identification Series.
McGinnis also is the founder and director of Student Athlete Community Service Network Inc. (SACSN), a 501 (c) (3) public charity dedicated to providing a platform for high school student-athletes to give back, stand out, and succeed through sports and volunteerism. He also served as the National Team recruiting coordinator, helping to select, coach, and mentor over 80 Alumni drafted by MLB since 2014, fourteen of which were first-round picks and nine making their Major League debuts.
McGinnis earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration, management (with a pre-law minor) in May of 2018, and he received his Master of Arts in health promotion in 2020.
