After a five-year tenure as an Owl, and two seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, Blake Sanderson returned to the FAU baseball program in January of 2021 as a graduate assistant.
Sanderson started his FAU career in 2015, and appeared in 61 games with 25 starts, a 12-5 record and 4.31 career ERA. Prior to his senior season in 2019, he was voted team captain, and became the Owls’ Friday night starter. After an 8-3 season, with those eight wins tying for the Conference USA lead, he was voted as All-C-USA First Team, and following the season, was a 31st round draft pick of the Blue Jays.
In the summer of 2019, Sanderson began his pro career with the GCL Blue Jays, pitching to a sparkling 1.38 ERA in five games, including one start. He wrapped his debut season with Dunedin in the Rookie league. He continued to be part of the Blue Jays’ organization in 2020 despite there being no minor league season due to COVID-19.
While playing at FAU, Sanderson earned his undergrad degree in 2019 in criminal justice. He is on pace to graduate this summer with his master’s degree in educational leadership. Sanderson is a native of Orlando and is an alumnus of Boone High School.
