Owls Win Tight 4-3 Match Over Tulane

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's tennis team defeated Tulane by a 4-3 score Saturday afternoon at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.

THE BEGINNING
The Owls celebrated four-year senior Maya Shanok prior to the match and then moved into doubles play, earning the point in part to Shanok's efforts on court #3, where the Owls won 6-3. While Shanok worked with Malwina Rowinska for the win, the duo of Panna Bartha / Katrin Pavkova, who are ranked No. 68 nationally, captured court #1 by a 6-2 score to clinch the match's first point.
THE MIDDLE
Holding the 1-0 lead, FAU then saw freshman Malika Amirgaliyeva record a straight set court #3 win, which doubled the lead to 2-0. Tulane fought back to tie the score with wins on courts #1 and #6.
THE FINALE
The match was tied again at 3-3, with court #5, the deciding court, also tied at one set all and well into the third set. Alexia Patru's teammates cheered for her as the third set moved to 6-6 in the third. The match tiebreak began with Patru winning every point for the 7-0 match clinching win 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(7-0).
