BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team fell twice to East Carolina in a Saturday doubleheader on Joan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium, by scores of 3-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

With the losses to the Pirates (19-10, 4-2), the Owls (20-9, 3-3) dropped their first American Conference series of the season.

GAME ONE
The Pirates struck first with three runs in the top of the second inning. A no-doubt home run by senior Chloe Yeatts for the second game in a row nearly hit the scoreboard to cut the deficit to 3-1. Base hits in the fifth and sixth innings were not enough to bring in another runner.

In the circle, Makenna Lee recorded the first loss of her collegiate career to move to 5-1. Senior Madison Inscoe entered in relief, pitching effectively for 4.2 innings and not allowing a run.

GAME TWO
The Owls threatened early in the bottom of the first with hits followed by a double steal from sophomore Lily Holtje and senior third baseman Jesiana Mora to put them on second and third base. A walk by Yeatts loaded the bases before Mora was thrown at home with no runs scored.

An RBI single gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before adding cushion in the top of the second with two more. Trailing 3-0 and down to their last two outs, redshirt junior outfielder Kylie Hammonds beat a throw to first for a single and Mora launched a two-run homer to close the gap to one. ECU recorded the final outs needed to secure the game and series.

Senior pitcher Autumn Courtney made her second start in as many days and once again only allowed one run. She pitched 3.1 innings before making way for graduate Ainsley Lambert, who tossed three strikeouts and allowed two hits the rest of the way.

NOTES/NOTABLE

Mora totaled four hits on the day.
Holtje has reached base safely in 21 consecutive games.
With a single in each game, Hammonds now has a team-best seven-game hitting streak.
Courtney allowed just two runs through two starts.
