Owls Take Down Eagles, 4-1

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's tennis team improved to 4-2 on the season with a 4-1 victory against the visiting FGCU on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the all-time series between the two Florida schools moves to 14-4 in favor of the Owls and 8-2 when playing in the friendly confines of FAU's Kimbley V. Strauss Tennis Center. FGCU falls to 1-7 on the year.
THE BEGINNING
The duo of Vanja Hodzic / Lucca Pignaton were the first Owls to take their court, winning 6-1 on court #3. FGCU captured court #2 to even the score. With the Owls up 5-3 on court #1, the Eagles mounted a comeback pulling the match to even, at 5-5. FAU then won two games without allowing FCGU to score a point. FAU junior Mark Havlicek recorded two aces and forced two errant service returns to put the No. 82 doubles duo up 6-5. FAU then broke FGCU's serve to take court #1, at 7-5, and clinched the doubles point for the Owls.
THE MIDDLE
Havlicek continued his dominance with a 6-1, 6-2 court #1 win to push the score to 2-0 in favor of the Owls. A FGCU win on court four halved that margin at 2-1. The Owls extended their advantage back to two at 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 Marek Pazdera win on court #3.
THE END
Needing just one more court, all eyes turned to courts #2, #5, and #6. Jan Kusy came through for the Owls with a court #5 straight-set win, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the contest for the Owls.
