MALIBU, Calif. – Florida Atlantic men's tennis fell 4-3 to Pepperdine on Sunday evening.
It was the second west coast match in as many days for FAU (1-2). The Owls used a full roster on Sunday, with the doubles teams remaining the same, as did the top two singles courts. The bottom four positions were either playing up or new to the lineup.
THE BEGINNING
Pepperdine clinched the doubles points with wins on courts #2 and #3 before FAU's
Mark Havlicek and
Marek Pazdera could wrap up a win on court #1 which was abandoned before completion.
THE MIDDLE
Pepperdine held the one-point lead and quickly closed out the match with three wins at the bottom of the lineup, all of which were in the Owls' singles lineup for the first time this season.
THE END
With the match already determined, the two teams played it out, allowing FAU time to complete match on the top three courts for the match 4-3 final. Havlicek captured court #1 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Segundo Goity Zapico won court #2 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Pazdera played up and earned a win on court #3 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win.
FAU will return home for a Friday, Jan. 23 match scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Kimberly V. Stauss Tennis Center.
