Florida Atlantic Hosts Wichita State in Midweek Matchup Tuesday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team returns to Paradise on Tuesday, Jan. 13, to begin a two-game homestand, beginning against the Wichita State Shockers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on ESPN+.

A LOOK AT THE OWLS

Florida Atlantic enters Tuesday's contest at 7-9 overall and 1-3 in American play. The Owls earned their first American Conference win of the season this past Saturday, defeating UAB 70-63.
As a team, the Owls currently lead the American in bench points per game (26.0), in addition to ranking third in steals per game (9.9), fourth in 3-point attempts per game (22.6), and fifth in 3-pointers made per game (6.9), turnovers forced per game (18.25), and fewest fouls per game (17.8).
The Owls' offense is paced by Vivian Onugha and Destyne Jackson. Onugha leads the team, scoring 9.6 points per game, while Jackson ranks second on the team, averaging 8.6 points per contest this season.
On the glass, the Owls are led by Haley Walker and Onugha. Walker has tallied a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per game, while Onugha ranks second on the team, collecting 5.8 boards per game.

SCOUTING WICHITA STATE

Wichita State enters Tuesday's midweek matchup at 3-14 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Shockers are on a five-game losing streak, dropping contests against Middle Tennessee, Tulsa, Tulane, Temple, and East Carolina.
The Shockers are led offensively by Jaila Harding and Abby Cater. Harding boasts a team-leading 12.9 points per game, while Cater has scored 10 points per game this season.
Cater is also Wichita State's steals leader, collecting 2.2 steals per game.
Taya Davis paces the Shockers in assists, dishing out a team-best 50 assists, averaging 2.9 per contest this season.
Treasure Thompson leads the Shockers on the glass and in blocks. She has collected a team-best 5.2 rebounds per game, in addition to tallying a team-high 1.0 block per game for the Shockers.

SERIES HISTORY

Wichita State leads Florida Atlantic in the all-time series, 3-1. In Boca Raton, Wichita State won the sole contest between the Owls and the Shockers, taking a 67-56 contest on Feb. 10, 2024. The Owls won the first-ever meeting between the two teams, capturing a 63-56 road win on Jan. 27, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas.

LAST TIME OUT: AT UAB

Florida Atlantic picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday, earning a 70-63 win on the road over the UAB Blazers.
The win marked the first American Conference victory for Head Coach LeAnn Freeland.
Four Owls registered double-figure performances in the win, led by Onugha with a team-best 15 points. Grace Carstensen finished with 12 points, while Gewirtz and Zahira Arizmendi posted 10 points apiece.
Gewirtz led the Owls on the glass, recording a career-best nine rebounds against the Blazers.
Moors dished out a team-high four assists and Arizmendi collected a team-best three steals in the win.
Florida Atlantic outscored the Blazers in the first, 19-17, and second quarters, 18-11.
The Owls also outshot the Blazers 33 percent to 19 percent from beyond the arc, while also tallying a major advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Blazers 48 to 33.
FAU also capitalized in transition, outscoring UAB 15 to 5 off fast break points.
