Owls Travel to Rice for First Road Conference Matchup

HOUSTON -- Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team will travel to Rice for the first American Conference road matchup of the season on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
Thursday marks the tenth time that Florida Atlantic (3-6-1, 0-1-0) has faced Rice (5-1-1, 0-0-1) in 11 years. These two programs moved conferences together in 2023.

- Head Coach Patrick Baker enters his 13th season at the helm of the Owls. Baker is one of the top 40 winningest active Division I women's soccer head coaches.
- The Owls enter their third season in the American Conference.
- Defender Daniella Diaz, midfielder Morgan McDonald, and forward Michelle Horan were named the Owls' three players to watch by the American.
- FAU has 12 newcomers on the roster in 2025.
- Graduate student Sloane Young leads the team in goals with five.
- Horan leads the Owls with four assists on the year to improve her career total to 11.
- Hailey Santiago has three goals on the year and leads the Owls with 13 shots.
- Brian Lee is in his seventh season at the helm at Rice.
- The Owls tied 3-3 with UAB to open their conference play last week in Birmingham, Ala.
- Rice remains undefeated at home this season with a 2-0 record.
- Leah Chancey was named an American honorable mention this week.
- Chancey is the leader for Rice in several categories (six goals, five assists, and 17 points).
- The series history against Rice dates back to October 19, 2014.
- The series is tied 4-4-1. The last matchup was Boca Raton, Fla., and the match resulted in a 0-0 draw (Oct. 17, 2024)
- The last time FAU made a trip to Houston, the Owls won 1-0 (Oct. 22, 2023)
- FAU holds a 3-2 record at Holloway Field.
