Leroux Named Player of the Week, Murphy Earns Honorable Mention

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior shortstop Brando Leroux of the Florida Atlantic baseball team has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Junior pitcher Tyler Murphy also earned a nod on the weekly honorable mention list.

Leroux went 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate in the Owls' 4-0 week, highlighted by a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning of Sunday's 8-6 victory over East Carolina. The senior from Markham, Ontario, Canada, was also a vacuum defensively at shortstop, with seven putouts and 13 assists. Leroux made a potentially game-saving over-the-shoulder catch in shallow left in the ninth inning of Friday's 6-5 win.

Murphy pitched a seven-inning complete game in Saturday's 14-1 run-rule victory. The junior allowed just three hits and one run in a career-long outing.

The Owls return home to start a weekend series against Memphis on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
