The Owls (28-15, 10-8) dropped two of three games to Charlotte over the weekend. Sandwiched between, however, was an 8-5 victory on Saturday that saw sophomore
Emilio Gonzalez homer twice and finish with five RBI.
John Schroeder also homered and drove in three runs.
Â
Pitching has continued to be a strength for the Owls.
Trey Beard tossed seven shutout innings on Friday,
MJ Bollinger recorded a six-out save on Saturday, and the bullpen handled five scoreless frames on Sunday.
Â
FIU swept No. 17 Western Kentucky over the weekend. The Panthers have won four straight overall, including a walk-off victory over Miami last Tuesday.
Â
The Owls and the Panthers met in a home-and-home weekend series in early March. After FIU took the opener on Friday (7-3), Florida Atlantic bounced back to win on Saturday (6-5) and Sunday (6-4).
Â
The Owls make their first visit to New Orleans, Louisiana, for a weekend series against Tulane starting Friday night. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
