No. 18 Florida Atlantic Splits On Day One of NOLA Classic

NEW ORLEANS – No. 18 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball split on the first day of the NOLA Classic, sweeping McNeese, 5-0, but falling against Tulane, 3-2, at White Sands Volleyball Courts on Friday.
Following the two contests, FAU moves to 15-14 overall and 3-2 in CUSA play, while Tulane improved to 22-9 overall and 2-2 in CUSA play, and McNeese fell to 12-15 on the season.
The Sandy Owls started the day off with a hard-fought battle against the Green Wave. Tulane took the opening lead, taking a two-set win on court four. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin tied the Owls up at 1-1 after earning a straight-set sweep at the No. 2 position, 22-20, 21-17. The Green Wave jumped back in front, 2-1, taking another straight-set win on court three. Tulane clinched the match at the No. 5 position, taking a tight three-set win to make it 3-1. However, the Sandy Owls closed out the 3-2 contest with another win at the No. 1 position as Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova rallied in the third set to win 21-18, 18-21, 15-13.
Florida Atlantic closed out the first day of the NOLA Classic with a strong sweep over the McNeese Cowgirls. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin once again got things started for the Sandy Owls, earning their second straight-set sweep of the day at the No. 2 position, 21-14, 21-12. Sydney Schroder and Olivia Strandberg secured their first pair win of the season to extend the Sandy Owls' lead to 2-0, earning a 21-17, 21-10 straight-set win at the 4s. Kendall Mignerey and Shayna Wolf also picked up their first pair win of the season, clinching the match with a two-set win at the 5s, 21-12, 21-15. Mia Scanlon and Klaire VanDeusen pushed FAU's lead to 4-0 after winning in straight sets, 21-12, 21-13, on court three. Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova completed the Owls' 5-0 sweep over McNeese, finishing the match with an impressive 21-10, 21-13 straight-set win at the No. 1 position.
