GREENVILLE, N.C. – Florida Atlantic's softball team launched three home runs to power past East Carolina with a 7-1 win on Thursday afternoon.
The Owls (36-9, 15-4) racked up 11 hits in a comeback victory over the Pirates (25-20, 10-9) to open the three-game series.
Junior pitcher
Autumn Courtney recorded her 10th complete game of the season and improved her record to 19-2 after allowing just two hits.
Redshirt sophomore outfielder
Kylie Hammonds began the game with a leadoff walk. The Owls conceded the opening run to the Pirates in the bottom of the second inning before Courtney struck her way out of a bases loaded jam.
Hammonds hit a single to the right side in her second plate appearance, but Florida Atlantic could not capitalize and remained scoreless through the first three innings.

Destiny Johns put two Owls on base to start the top of the fourth. Junior catcher
Chloe Yeatts followed up with a homer to right center field, her seventh of the season, for a 3-1 lead.
Just two at-bats later, junior first baseman
Yani Guzman recorded the first home run of her collegiate career and the team's second of the inning.
The Owls loaded the bases in the top of the fifth before sophomore shortstop
Kiley Channell came home off a sacrifice fly RBI from classmate
Ciara Gibson to up the score to 5-1.
Already with a hit and a walk, Hammonds added a two-run homer in the top of the sixth for the game's final runs.
- The Owls have hit 11 home runs and have outscored opponents 45-6 in their last four American Athletic Conference road games.
- Florida Atlantic now has 14 comeback wins on the season.
- All nine batters in the Owls' starting lineup recorded at least one hit.
- Hammonds went 2-for-3 on the day with her team-best 17th multi-hit game. She has reached base in 41 out of 45 appearances on the season.
- Freshman outfielder Bella Foran has reached base safely in 17 consecutive games.
- Courtney's 19 wins are the most in the AAC. She also owns the conference's lowest ERA (1.87), and batting average allowed (.159) while leading in strikeouts (129).
The Owls will look to win their sixth AAC series of the season on Friday at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
