No. 15 Sandy Owls Split Against USF and FGCU on Senior Day

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 15 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team wrapped up the Capri Classic on Saturday, earning a 4-1 exhibition win over South Florida but falling 4-1 in the Capri Classic Championship against the FGCU Eagles on senior day.
With the loss to FGCU, Florida Atlantic falls to 14-13 overall and 3-1 in CUSA play, while FGCU moved to 18-10, 5-2 ASUN.
The Sandy Owls' started the day off strong with a 4-1 exhibition win over the South Florida Bulls. Kate Stoughton and Reese Edwards put the Sandy Owls on the board first, securing a 21-13, 21-13 straight-set sweep on court four. Kate McLaughlin and Julie Honzovicova extended FAU's lead to 2-0 after battling back to win a comeback three-set victory at the No. 2 position, 17-21, 21-18, 15-8. The Bulls won the third point of the match on court three, cutting the Sandy Owls advantage to 2-1. Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova picked up the dual-clinching win on court one, sweeping the Bulls' top pair 21-13, 21-17. Shantel Starling and Kendall Mignerey closed out the 4-1 win, picking up the Owls' fourth point with a straight-set sweep at the 5s, 27-25, 21-13.
FAU struggled in the Capri Classic Championship, dropping the 4-1 battle against FGCU. The Eagles opened the match with three straight points, winning courts three, four, and five to clinch the dual. Julie Honzovicova and Kate McLaughlin put the Sandy Owls on the board, earning a three-set win on court two, 22-20, 14-21, 15-13, to make it 3-1, but the Eagles secured the final point on court one to close out the 4-1 contest.
