FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 12 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team split with a 3-2 loss to No. 13 Texas, and a 3-2 win over Boise State on Friday, the first day of the TCU Invitational.
Florida Atlantic moves to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in CUSA play. Texas improves to 10-1 overall and Boise State falls to 3-4.
Texas took the opening lead as
Shantel Starling and Syndey Schroder dropped a straight-set match 21-19, 21-18 on court four. Florida Atlantic bounced back to even the match at 1-1 with a court five win by
Olivia Strandberg and
Maddie Sides at 21-16, 13-21, 15-8.
Ashleigh Adams and
Marketa Svozilova pushed the Sandy Owls in front 2-1 after capturing their ninth straight-set win of the season against Texas' top pair, 21-16, 21-14. The Longhorns evened the match at 2-2 on court three as
Kate McLaughlin and
Kendall Mignerey fell in two sets by a 21-18, 21-12 score. The match came down to court two.
Klaire VanDeusen and
Julie Honzovicova tried to rally back after dropping a tight opening set, but their comeback fell just short, dropping a three-set battle, 24-22, 17-21, 15-12, as the Longhorns clinched the 3-2 win.

The Sandy Owls started strong against the Boise State Broncos. McLaughlin and Mignerey put Florida Atlantic on the board first, earning a straight-set sweep on court three, 21-14, 21-14. The Owls extended their lead to 2-0 after Schroder and Starling captured another straight-set victory at the 4s, 21-18, 21-17. Florida Atlantic almost clinched the match at the 5s, but Strandberg and Sides dropped their second and third set to the Broncos, 18-21, 12-13, 15-13. Boise State evened the match at the 1s as Adams and Svozilova were defeated by the Bronco's top pair at 21-19, 21-17. It was the first loss of the season for the Owl duo. However, the Sandy Owls rallied to clinch the win on court two. VanDeusen and Honzovicova rallied back after dropping a close opening set and a third set deficit to complete the comeback 19-21, 21-13, 15-13, clinching the 3-2 win.
