Owls Win Marathon Match

BOCA RATON, Fla – Florida Atlantic men's tennis battled South Alabama as well as the wind to come away with a 5-2 victory on Thursday afternoon.
The win is the second in as many outings for the Owls and improves their record to 3-7 overall while USA drops to 3-9.
The Owls welcomed back veteran Jiri Jenicek, who saw his first action of 2025 following an injury, as he teamed with Mark Havlicek on doubles court #1. As luck would have it, the doubles point in the 2-of-3 format came down to their court. Ultimately, USA won court #1 and the doubles point by a 7-6(9-7) score.
FAU senior John Bernard, who broke into the national rankings this week at No. 106, quickly tied the match score at 1-1 with a straight-set singles victory on court #1. Teammate Marek Pazdera followed in a similar fashion which gave the Owls a 2-1 lead. USA would tie the match at 2-2, but Owl freshman Luca Miremont captured court #6 with a three-set win to put Florida Atlantic up 3-2, a lead they would never surrender. FAU's Mark Havlicek won court #2 6-3, 6-7(7-3), 6-3 to clinch the match with freshman Segundo Goity Zapico quickly following for the 5-2 final in favor of the Owls.
