BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball tossed a 6-0 shutout over Bradley on Friday night at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
The Owls (15-3) took game one of the three-game series against the Braves (2-10). Florida Atlantic has won the last five games and improved its record to 13-1 at home.
The Owls scored early on Friday and then rode starter
Trey Beard and the bullpen the rest of the way.
John Martinez scored from third on a wild pitch for the game's first run in the second inning. Later in the frame,
Jake Duer lined an opposite-field single to left to drive in two runs and make it a 3-0 lead.
John Schroeder launched a two-run home run in the third inning to give Beard a 5-0 lead to protect. Beard allowed two singles in the second and an infield hit in the fifth. None of the baserunners amounted to anything as the sophomore cruised through six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts.
The bullpen preserved the shutout for the final three innings, with
Carter Holjes,
Max Martzolf, and
Ryan Buckler delivering one scoreless frame each.
- Schroeder finished the night 2-for-3 with three runs scored. His home run was his second of the season.
- Martinez doubled twice and scored two runs.
- Duer recorded his 36th hit of the season to tie for the most in Division I.
- Beard finished with nine strikeouts and earned the win to improve to 3-0.
- Holjes and Martzolf struck out two batters each.
