BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Freshman guard Josiah Parker and redshirt sophomore Devin Vanterpool of the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team were named as one of the seven to receive a weekly award from the American Conference on Monday afternoon.
Both Parker and Vanterpool tallied tremendous performances on Sunday, scoring 23 out of the Owls' final 30 points in the comeback victory against Florida Gulf Coast.
Parker, the American Preseason Freshman of the Year, was named the freshman of the week after having a stellar performance on his birthday against FGCU on Sunday afternoon. In the victory over the Eagles, he scored 16 points for the first double-digit game of his career. Parker registered all of his points in the second half, going 7-for-8 from the field. His contributions on both offense and defense in the final 11 minutes of the game helped secure the win for the Owls.
The Laurel, Maryland native Vanterpool recorded another strong performance for FAU. He totaled 24 points, his seventh consecutive double-digit scoring game, with 8 boards on the day. He is tied for the Owls with the most 20-point games this season. Vanterpool ignited the momentum of the game in the final five minutes with a steal that resulted in a bucket from Parker to bring the game back within two points.
