Owls Defeated by Flames to Split Field of 68 Tip-Off

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team dropped the 2025 Field of 68 Tip-Off finale to Liberty by a score of 88-68 on Sunday evening.
While the Flames (3-0) handed the Owls (2-1) their first loss of the season, redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool impressed with a career high 24-point performance, shooting 10-for-15 from the field.
FIRST HALF
For the third game in a row, Vanterpool converted the first field goal make for the Owls for his first two of 10 points in the opening period. FAU kept the game within single digits for the first 12 minutes before surrendering a three-pointer to fall behind 31-19.
Continuing to find success off offensive rebounds, Florida Atlantic outscored Liberty 13-2 on second chance points in the first half. The Owls closed a 20-point deficit with a 9-2 run before entering the locker room at halftime trailing 48-30.
SECOND HALF
Vanterpool continued where he left off with a three-pointer to open second-half scoring. He scored eight of the Owls' first nine points, including a three-point play.
Junior guard Kanaan Carlyle attacked the hoop with all eight of his points coming in the final 20 minutes.

- Florida Atlantic won the rebounding battle 34-28.
- The Owls outscored the Flames 11-2 on fastbreak points.
