BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's football team completed a competitive Wednesday practice with the knowledge that the Owls will need to bring their best efforts to New Orleans to come away with a win against Tulane and inch closer to bowl eligibility.
Offensively, the Owls are led by redshirt junior quarterback Caden Veltkamp who totals 245 completions on 372 attempts for 2,589 yards and 20 scores. He has connected with 18 receivers, but none more than redshirt junior slot receiver Easton Messer, who is No. 2 nationally with 74 receptions. Messer has four TDs on the year while redshirt sophomore WR Asaad Waseem leads the team with five TDs. The bulk of the run game is expected to be handled by sophomore Kaden Shields-Dutton and redshirt sophomore Gemari Sands. Shields-Dutton leads all rushers with four scores, while Sands leads the team with 358 yards.
Defensively, redshirt junior linebacker Tyler Stolsky enters the game with 72 tackles, including two for a loss of seven yards. Fellow linebacker Leon Hart Jr. has 67 tackles and four for a loss of 15 yards. Junior Deshaun Batiste leads the team with 3.5 tackles for a loss of 48 yards and will be making a return trip to New Orleans, where he attended John F. Kennedy High School.
The two teams will meet for the third time, second as American Conference members. The two first met back in Boca Raton in 2013 with the Owls coming away with a 34-17 win. The Owls then fell to a No. 24 Tulane, 24-8, also in Paradise, in 2023.
To follow the games: football is scheduled to play at Tulane at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. The game will air on ESPN+ and also will air on Fox Sports 640 AM South Florida.
