BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming and diving teams will hit the road for the first time this season, set to compete in the annual TYR Fall Classic, a meet hosted by FIU including several teams.
Friday's meet action on October 3rd will begin at 5 p.m, with Saturday's events on Oct. 4th beginning at 10 a.m. Live results can be found on Meet Mobile.
At the 2024 TYR Fall Classic, FAU had a pair of second place finishes, with both the men's and women's teams finishing as runners-up. The men totaled 533 points and the women finished with 497.
LAST TIME OUT
Women
- In the season opener versus Indian River, the women picked up the victory, scoring 223 points.
- The team of Megan Drover-Smith, Nula Gow, Yasemine Safargar, and Ella Freeman opened the season with a time of 1:44.87 and a win in the 200 medley relay.
- Talitha McEwan picked up wins in the 1000 free (10:13.20) and 500 free (4:58.45).
- In her first race as an Owl, Bella Answeeney raced to first place in the 200 fly (2:03.11) and 100 fly (56.84).
- Newcomer Augusta Ness won the 1-meter diving competition with a total score of 237.53 with senior Grace Powell took home the win in the 3-meter diving scoring 260.48.
- Meet one concluded with a victory in the 400 free relay, winning in a time of 3:26.32.
Men
- Similar to the women, the men took first place totaling 533 points.
- Daniel Laureyssens had a record day, winning the 200 free swimming with a time of 1:35.64, beating the rest of the field by over five seconds. He then broke the school record in the 100 free, which was later broken again during the 400 free relay (43.28).
- The Owls took first place in the 200 medley with the team of Rush Clark, John Reese Taylor, Leyton Roe, and Laureyssens logging a time of 1:28.25.
- Rocco Simonelli swept the diving events, winning both the 3-meter (340.20) and 1-meter diving (315.00).
- Meet one closed out with the Owls winning the 400 free relay in a time of 2:59.58.
ON DECK
FAU will have next weekend off before returning home to the FAU Aquatic Center, competing a dual meet against reigning NAIA National Champions, the Keiser Seahawks on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m.
