BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls return to Paradise this weekend as they host Temple on Friday, Oct. 17, and Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 19, for a two-game homestand inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. First serve on Friday is at 6 p.m., while Sunday's first serve is at 1 p.m.
A LOOK AT THE OWLS
- Florida Atlantic enters the two-game homestand at 13-6 on the season and 4-2 in American Conference play.
- The Owls are led offensively by Olivia Hart, Anna Hartman, and Erin Morrissey. Hart boasts a team-best 3.69 kills per set, while Hartman and Morrissey are averaging 2.55 and 2.30 kills per set, respectively.
- Florida Atlantic's assists leaders are Emsley Venard and Victoria Hensley. Venard boasts a team-leading 393 assists, averaging 5.95 per set, while Hensley ranks second on the team with 325 assists, dishing out 4.85 per set.
- The Owls' back row is led by libero Isabelle Northam, boasting a team-best 284 digs, averaging 4.51 per set. Hart ranks second on the team in digs with 187, averaging 2.79 per set.
- At the net, Florida Atlantic's block is led by Maggie Allred. Allred has registered 75 blocks this season, averaging 1.25 blocks per set.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
- Temple enters the weekend at 11-9 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Owls are currently on a five-game losing streak after opening conference play with a five-set win over preseason favorite Rice.
- Offensively, the Owls are led by Leia Harper, Christiana Greene, and Olivia Hummel. Harper paces the way for the Owls, averaging 3.14 kills per set, while Greene and Hummel follow just behind at 2.92 and 2.50 kills per set, respectively.
- Lexi Yoza and Daniella Gonzalez Murati are Temple's assist leaders for their 6-2 offense. Yoza boasts a team-best 5.18 assists per set, while Gonzalez Murati follows just behind with 4.62 assists per set.
- The Owls' back row is led by Claudia Rivera, Harper, Hummel, and Yoza. Rivera boasts a team-leading 2.72 digs per set, while Harper, Hummel, and Yoza rank second through fourth, averaging 2.71, 2.54, and 2.40 digs per set, respectively.
- At the net, the Owls are led by Finister, Greene, and Katie Hickey. Finister leads the team in blocks with 53, averaging 0.73 blocks per set, while Greene and Hickey rank second and third, recording 44 and 40 blocks, averaging 0.62 and 0.80 blocks per set, respectively.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
- Charlotte has experienced a significant turnaround from a season ago, currently sitting at 14-4 overall and tied for first in the league at 5-1 in conference play. The 49ers ended the 2024 season with just five wins, finishing last in the league.
- Kristen Birmingham leads the 49ers offensively, ranking first in the American in kills per set with a team-best 4.35 kills per set. Jessica Ricks and Jaylen Jordan rank second and third on the team, posting 3.47 and 2.62 kills per set, respectively.
- The 49ers also run a 6-2 offense, led by assist leaders Lauren Nixon and Maddie Stuesser. Nixon boasts a team-leading 388 assists, averaging 7.19 per set, while Stuesser has dished out 314 assists, boasting a team-best 7.30 assists per set.
- Defensively, libero Annika Thompson leads the American and the 49ers' back row with 347 digs, averaging a conference-best 5.26 digs per set. At the net, Charlotte's block is led by Jovana Antic, recording 77 blocks and averaging 1.22 blocks per set.
SERIES HISTORY
- Friday's match marks the 6th all-time meeting between Florida Atlantic and Temple. FAU holds the 3-2 series lead against Temple, including a 2-1 lead when playing at home. Florida Atlantic has won the last two meetings between the two programs, including earning a straight-set sweep against Temple earlier this season on Oct. 5 in Philadelphia.
- Sunday's matchup marks the 28th all-time meeting between the Owls and the 49ers and the 13th meeting in Boca Raton. Florida Atlantic holds an 8-4 record over the 49ers at home. The Owls have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams, falling in a hard-fought five-set battle on Oct. 10 in Charlotte.
